Have we learned nothing from the Fieldbus Wars?
Historical wars should teach us the importance of communication (besides the control over the human ego). The fieldbus wars in the early 2000s are somewhat ironic if you consider the fact that they are (were?) about communication standards: Profibus, Modbus, Foundation Fieldbus etc.
Have we learned anything from these wars when developing new standards? I’m particularly thinking of any standard developed for Industrie 4.0 that seems to duplicate content.
