I have been in the automation engineering spectator gallery, admittedly without contributing much. It seems to me that the discussion centered around standards that manage the assets in a plant – open process automation, asset administration shell, MTP, AutomationML, NOA etc. are pushed by academics and vendors but not automation users.
Working closely with automation users, I experience different needs, based on practical issues that will not be solved by organizing assets in a better way. Realising asset management standards in a brown field environment seems to come at a huge cost and fails to address real problems.
Has anyone considered that some of the work done might be a sunk cost fallacy?
What am I missing?
